It is very important to have as many links as possible that point to your website, but it is also very important for the pages which provide these links to have a high page rank. Recently the links are indexed by IP (not by host+ page). Example: If until now we would have had 3 back link to us from three different pages of another website www.site.com/page1.html, www.site.com/page2.html, and www.site.com/page3.html all the links would have been considered by Google.
